Everyone thinks of Pinot when they hear the Dundee Hills. For good reason…

But nestled in one of the best areas in the world for Pinot noir is a 2-acre western-facing slope at 800 feet of elevation. Too cold for Pinot noir BUT… just right for Riesling! 

 From Winemaker Matt Wengel-  “To help maximize aromatic intensity and complexity, the wine was fermented in both neutral French oak and stainless steel barrels.  The finished wine was aged on the lees for 6 months with occasional stirring.  The results are honeyed pineapple, tangerine, and Meyer lemon fruit framed by white flower and river rock aromatics.”

The 2019 Vintage

After five consecutive warm and dry vintages, Oregon returns to its cooler, wetter, more classic roots in 2019.  The start of 2019 was cold and wet but rebounded to slightly warmer than average conditions.  Near record amounts of precipitation changed all that by late June.  Rain would hit again in early September followed by a rapid cooldown in early October.  A tight, two week picking window opened towards the end of September which quickly closed.  Fortunately, there was enough warmth earlier in the growing season to fully ripen the fruit by the time of harvest.  Those who were able to get all of their fruit in before the early October rains were rewarded with beautiful, aromatic and acid driven fruit.  The resulting wines are truly elegant, expressive and speak to what makes Oregon winemaking so special.
